Dr. Hightower says that choosing her favorite part of her job is easy—it’s interacting with her patients! She likes seeing the younger ones grow up and talking to her adult patients about not just dentistry, but their lives and passions as well. Each person has an interesting story to tell, and she believes that everyone deserves to have a healthy, beautiful smile as well as relaxing appointments. To learn a little more about Dr. Hightower and her background, read below.
Dr. Hightower decided she wanted to be a dentist at 13 years old after her uncle recommended it while she was going to school in Jamaica. She had always been interested in the sciences and was searching for career options in the healthcare field at the time. After extensive research, she discovered that dentistry would provide the proper work-life balance that she needed. The rest, as they say, is history!
Dr. Hightower has two hometowns: Pickering, Ontario, Canada, and a town called Linstead in Jamaica. She later went on to attend the University of the West Indies (Mona Campus) to study Natural Sciences before moving to the U.S. where she attended the Howard University College of Dentistry. In addition to completing an Advanced General Residency, she has worked in various dental offices throughout the Washington Metropolitan area. She also has years of experience working in a pediatric setting.
On top of this, she has dedicated herself to continuing education, particularly courses focused on restorative and cosmetic dentistry. She has held many dental certifications over the past 20 years, but the majority of them are focused more on Invisalign and Six Month Smiles orthodontics. Dr. Hightower is also an active member of the Maryland Dental Association and would even love to create her own association someday.
Dr. Hightower has family in three different countries, so she takes a lot of trips to see her loved ones throughout the year. At home, you’ll usually find her reading books about esoteric subjects, herbology, astrology, history, and civics. She also enjoys traveling to new places and reading texts from ancient civilizations. One interesting thing about her: she used to scuba dive!
